about

Alicia M. P. Nelson is an award-winning San Francisco/Bay Area based actor, clown, and arts educator.

She hails from San Jose, CA where she grew up playing imagination games in her backyard, and faithfully wearing her favorite pair of All Stars. Originally trained in ballet, she eventually turned to musical theatre, and finally found that her heart lies in being a “full-bodied actor.”

She is a graduate of Boston University where she acquired a BFA in Acting. She has a certificate in Greek & Roman Mythology of the University of Pennsylvania, and an Advanced Teacher Early Childhood Education Certificate from University of California Santa Cruz. In the spring of 2016 she traveled to Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy where she studied physical theater and Commedia dell'Arte. That year she also traveled to Papingo, Greece as an apprentice with One Year Lease Theater Company where she studied the Greek language and the art of Greek tragedies.

As a proud woman of mixed race (Black & White) Alicia hopes to use her life at the intersection to inspire others like her to dream big and acknowledge themselves in their wholeness. She considers her role in the world, and how she is perceived, to be a gift she can wield to bring awareness to political injustices, voice concerns, and reflect in others what she wished someone has shown her was possible in herself. Her favorite stories are those that champion witty, intelligent, tenacious women. And those that are hyper-aware of their impact and dare to make bold, progressive political statements.

Alicia is passionate about all things that spark the imagination. She is an avid believer in playing pretend, making a fool of yourself, and diving in head-first. Because amidst it all, we must still nurture our inner child, and dare to have fun.

She is a grateful recipient of a Theatre Bay Area Award (Featured Performer in a Musical - 2017) and the Leigh Weimers Emerging Artist Award (2024).

She is a proud member of the Actors Equity Association.
